Official Name Changes: When empaths first came to power on Kiran, they instituted an informal naming system as a point of pride. After the end of the golden age, the naming system was adopted and made mandatory by the planetary governments. The general rule is a new name must be taken by the empath by age 21, or when they graduate from the University. Here are the names pending for current characters.
Bastian (venerable). Will become “Asten” when he has completed his training.
Nanda (joy). Will become “Andir,” because I like the name. (Also, “anda” means ride.)
Asha (hope). Will remain the same when she has completed her training.
Reid (dwells within a clearing). Will remain the same; he is a non-practicing empath.
Elene (torch). Will become Alina when she has completed her training.
Diane (divine). Will become Anya when she has completed her training.
Note the A names are all two or three syllable. That is part of the Kiran convention. Names that end in A are always feminine, and those that end in consonants are masculine.
Asten, Andir -->MALE
Asha, Alina, Anya-->FEMALE
